Eldorado and the Ruckus - Do Androids dream of Electric Sheep? (2007)

'Do Androids....' is Eldorado's second album, which was released in 2007. This time they expanded their raw blues-rock sound with drum machines and new wave-inspired keyboards, which resulted in a science-fiction blue-rock opera ! (their own words). . Anyway, this is an exciting blues-rock album where you'll hear some echoes of Talking Heads and The Cure. You'd always wondered how futuristic robots play the blues?

Eldorado and the Ruckus - Planet of the Vampires II (2005)

From Porch Ghouls to Eldorado and the Ruckus, it's a small step. Eldorado and the Ruckus is led by Eldorado Del Ray, former singer/guitarist from the ulta-raw, bluesy punk outfit Porch Ghouls (see my previous post), assisted by Alabama's duo The Immortal Lee County Killers. 'Planet of the Vampires II' is their first offer, recorded at Sam Phillips' famous Sun Studios in Memphis. Keywords are: raw, blues, punk, rock'n'roll, garage. You should definitly check these guys, you won't regret it.

Porch Ghouls - Porch Ghouls EP (2001)

The Porch Ghouls are a Memphis, TN, four-piece that cross-breeds pure, unpolished southern blues with the gritty energy of punk rock and come up with a fusion they call "Ruckus Music." The group faced a number of personnel changes in Memphis before settling on a stable line-up of Eldorado Del Ray on Dobro guitar and lead vocals, Slim Electro on electric guitar, Randy Valentine on harmonica, and Duke Baltimore on percussion (mostly an amplified suitcase). This rare and hard to find self-titled EP was their first release, in 2003 followed by their first full-lenght ' Bluff City Ruckus'. This EP contains cover versions of R.L.Burnside, Little Richard, Willie Dixon...

Triggerfinger - Triggerfinger (2004)

This is a re-up request. Debut album from this Flemish power trio, one of our best live bands and one of the hardest working bands in Belgium. They put out a sound reminiscent of AC/DC , Led Zeppelin and ZZ Top, but also to Creedence Clearwater Revival - they covered their 'Commotion' and do that very well - There's also a spooky cover of Brel s 'Au Suivant'.

Audionom - Superior (2009)

Finally, Stockholm's legendary repetitive neokraut/new wave rockers Audionom are back with their first proper album since 'Retrospektive'. I've been waiting for this patiently and man, I'm pretty sure that it was really worth it. Expect some Joy Division-like new wave krautrock and Suicide-ish electro-punk tunes. Cabrón - Cabrón (2006)

Cabrón is another groovy (hard)rockband from my home-country. This band, hailing from Leuven, released their self-titled debut album in 2006, on (Belgium's) Buzzville Records. Their catchy riffs and pounding drums are often compared with QOTSA, Soundgarden and Foo Fighters... They have shared the stage with bands such as Mission of Burma, Brant Bjork & the Bros. and Dozer, to name a few. They also have released a split album with Los Natas. You liked Belgian bands such as Triggerfinger, El Guapo Stuntteam or Hulk(k), than you'll surely love these men also.

The Neckbones - The Lights are Getting Dim (1999)

Trashy garage punk band the Neckbones, hailing from Mississippi, consists of vocalist/guitarist/bassist David Boyer, guitarist/bassist Robbie Alexander, guitarist Tyler Keith, and drummer Forrest Hewes. The Neckbones signed Fat Possum and released their debut album, 'Souls on Fire' in 1997, followed by 'The Lights are Getting Dim' in 1999. Expect here some trashy, sleazy, punky garage rocktunes.

Speedball Baby - Uptight! (2000)

Speedball Baby is an energetic four-piece of beatnik rockabilly-inspired New York City art punk. The band was formed in 1995 and released two early EP's , 'Uptight', their sophomore full-length, was released in 2000 on 'In The Red' Records. Similar artists: Dirtbombs, Heavy Trash...

Scratch Acid - The Greatest Gift (1991)

Formed in 1982, this Austin, Texas, post-hardcore noise group laid the groundwork for much of the distorted, grinding alternative punk rockers of the '90s. Scratch Acid originally featured Steve Anderson (vocals), David Wm. Sims (guitar), Brett Bradford (guitar), David Yow (bass), and Rey Washam (drums). After several line-up changes they released their first self-titled EP in 1984. After two more releases they disbanded in 1987, but Sims and David Yow reunited to form the Jesus Lizard in 1989, which picked up where Scratch Acid left off. This posthumous compilation album contains 28 tracks, including their self-titled debut EP (1984), their full-album 'Just Keep Eating' (1986) and the 'Berserker EP' (1987).

Davila 666 - Punales, Pildoras y Otras Formas De Entretenerse (2008)

Finally, back in 'business', it was quite a hilarious weekend. Davila 666, describing themselves as like "Menudo on drugs," San Juan, Puerto Rico's Davila 666 combine Stooges-like garage rock fire with the occasional sugary pop melody, Spanish psychedelic rock'n'roll powerpunk. The seven Davilas include singer/tambourine player Sir Charles, multi-instrumentalist AJ, guitarists/vocalists Miss Davila and Johnny Otis, drummer/guitarist/vocalist San Pablo, percussionist/vocalist Panda, and guitarist/drummer/vocalist Gigi. Their theatrical live show -- which includes themes, props, costumes, and dancers -- won them fans in the States when they toured with the Black Lips and the King Khan & BBQ Show.

Hètten Dès - Cowboys Con Cojones (2006)

Found this in my shoutbox a while ago, sended by a guest, thanks! Hètten Dès, hailing from Leuven/Antwerp (Belgium), combining (power) country with a bit rock'n'roll, surf and bluegrass. This album contains six covers, such as Neil Diamonds 'Solitary Man', Danzig's 'Thiteen' or Motorhead's 'Ace of Spades' to name a few.

Punk Blues Review - Death or Glory (2008)

This is the second album of PBR, a Kingston (USA) based quartet, fronted by dynamic vocalist Jamie Bahr, guitar whiz Blake Metzler and completed by rhythm section Ellis Keaton (bass) and Johnny Watson (percussion). This quartet combines classic roots music (Johnny Cash, Howlin’ Wolf) with some old skool punk (Social Distortion, the Cramps, Ramones...).

The Immortal Lee County Killers - The Essential Fucked Up Blues (2001)

Formed in summer 1999 in Auburn, AL, by guitarist Chetley "Cheetah" Weise ( Quadrajets) and drummer Doug "the Boss" Sherrard. Combining punkish garage rock pathos with the basic elements of Chicago and Mississippi Delta blues. If you like your blues extra dirty and nasty, you dig ILCK. This is their first album, and it's a very raw and under-produced platter.. . "The Essential Fucked Up Blues" is very agressive, abrasive, and dirty. In 2006, after recording 2 more albums they've decided to split up.

Kickin' Ass - Always Going Fast (2009)

Finally, back home again. Let's start the weekend with Kickin' Ass, a rock'n'roll combo hailing from Spain. You wanna hear some rock'n'roll drenched with equal parts stoner and punk. Well, what are you waiting for, you should check these guys on their Myspace and download their album immediately. Yeah, that's right, you can download the entire album (and their previous releases) for free on their Myspace-page. If you have the opportunity, go to their show, buy a T-shirt or so, they really deserve it. They know how to play the rock'n'roll, those guys have the right spirit!

Note: Kickin' Ass, I wish you guys a lot of gigs, a lot of booze and smoke, plenty groupies... you know, all things a band can wish. Cheers...

The High Plane Drifters - Georgian Ghosts, Archer Street Blues and The Candy Factory (2007)

Founded this in my shoutbox, what a surprise, thanks Sandy. The High Plane Drifters are a guitar and drums duo based in the North East of England....This is raw and gritty garage psyche-blues. Damn, this two-piece brings an explosive hi-energy psychedelic garage blues, this is just f**king amazing, you need to play this loud!!! They've shared the stages with bands such as The Soledad Brothers, Immortal Lee County Killers.... Currently on tour in the US. (with The Black Diamond Heavies). If you're lucky, go to see them, it seems that their live-set is pretty awesome too. Sandy, once again, thank you very much for sharing this.
