The Delta 72 were an American alternative music band formed in Washington, DC in the summer of 1994, later relocated to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. After several line-up changes they've released the Triple Crown 7” and the album The R&B of Membership in 1996. Later releases include several singles and an EP and this full-length 'The Soul of a New Machine', followed by '000' in 2000. They disbanded in July 2001. Call them R&B's equivalent to the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion; the Delta 72 play revved-up indie rock with less influence from original R&B than the helter-skelter mayhem of '60s garage rock (complete with Farfisa organ break-downs) and blues-based punk (source emusic).
